Daniel Dubois delivers devastating second-round stoppage of Fabio Wardley to retain WBO title
Daniel Dubois delivered a brutal second-round knockout of Fabio Wardley to successfully defend his WBO heavyweight championship.
- Dubois cements his position as Britain's premier heavyweight
- Wardley's corner concedes defeat in the second round
On Saturday night, Daniel Dubois dominated Fabio Wardley in their WBO world title bout, continuing his pursuit of becoming the most commanding heavyweight boxer globally with this decisive win. This marked the second time in five months that Dubois has beaten Wardley, but unlike their closely contested fight earlier this year, this matchup was a shockingly lopsided beating.
At 2 minutes and 21 seconds into the second round, Wardley was saved from Dubois's relentless assault by the referee, just as his trainer Ben Davison's white towel flew over the ropes in surrender. Davison had nearly thrown in the towel at the end of the first round, but the bell saved Wardley from a disastrous opening three minutes. He was knocked down heavily after just 17 seconds when Dubois landed a left cross followed by a devastating right hand.
